Costco officials have requested a specific use permit for a gas station and to allow the construction of a tire service center at its upcoming location at the northeast corner of Us 380 and Hardin Boulevard in McKinney.

The items were passed by the McKinney Planning and Zoning Commission tonight and will be sent on to the McKinney City Council for a final vote Nov. 1.

Costco officials said both the gas station and tire service center were integral parts of any Costco facility adding that the gas station will begin with 16 fueling positions with room for and expansion to 24 positions.

City Council approved an economic development agreement May 17 with the wholesaler.

The 37-acre development, to be named 380 at Headington Heights, could also be home to several other big-box retailers, according to site developers.

The membership wholesaler has stores throughout the area, including both Frisco and Plano. Costco officials said they have been working with the city for quite some time as they researched the appropriate location for the new store.

The building will be 150,000 square feet with more than 700 parking spaces and a members-only fuel station. Costco officials said the store would be slightly larger in size and offerings than its Frisco location.
