The city of McKinney voted May 3 on an alignment for the Laud Howell Parkway extension from Trinity Falls Parkway to Lake Forest Drive. Laud Howell currently runs from US 75 to Trinity Falls.

The final alignment—a combination of several road alignment options—was first discussed April 18 and would have the least impact on neighboring residences. According to a statement released by the city this month, this alignment does not displace any residences or buildings and provides the best opportunity for economic growth of the northwest sector.

“We got nasty emails about how we were kicking people out of their houses but none of that was warranted,” Council Member Rainey Rogers said, adding that the city never intended to take anyone’s home or even consider a route that would.

McKinney Mayor Brian Loughmiller said the city works hard to avoid negatively impacting residents as the city grows, adding that the hybrid alignment does not affect any of the residences in the area.

Council also voted for a divided bridge to allow for better aesthetics.
