The McKinney City Council will hold a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. April 18 as Columbus Realty Partners, Ltd. unveils renderings for the proposed development at the city's nine-acre site. The public hearing will be held at City Hall, 222 N. Tennessee St.

In February, the city signed a Master Development Agreement with Columbus for the construction of a mixed-use development on the nine-acre site,  located at the southwest corner of Davis Street and SH 5. The land was the former home of the Collin County Courthouse and was originally purchased by the city for a potential new home for city hall, officials said.

The public hearing is part the Development Agreement, as Columbus agreed to hold a public presentation of design concepts.

Columbus has been working with the city of McKinney to develop a concept plan that includes new multi-family residential, commercial and office uses in a compact urban and pedestrian-oriented design, according to city officials. Under the agreement for the project, construction would start no later than January 2017; however, officials are expecting construction to begin this fall.
