Downtown parking Downtown parking continues to be top priority for City Council.[/caption] The future of parking in downtown McKinney will again be discussed March 17 as a newly formed parking committee holds its first meeting. The meeting will take place from 5:30-6:30 p.m. inside council chambers at City Hall, 222 N. Tennessee Street, McKinney. Topics include a discussion on previous parking studies, a presentation on current available parking spaces downtown and establishing a deadline to present findings to City Council. The city of McKinney has been working to find solutions for the parking problem in downtown McKinney. After failing to get bond funds approved for a contentious parking garage last November, the council reached out to residents for input through the formation of a parking committee. The committee, tasked with finding both short- and long-term solutions, is made of 15 council-appointed community members including Rick Wells, Tom Meredith, George Bush, Larry Curfman, Larry Horner, Kim Black, Karen Chandler, Kathryn Waite, Rick Weaver, Wes Hendricks, Tracy Caruth, Barry Shelton, Patricia Jackson, Mayor Brian Loughmiller and Council Member Tracy Rath. The members are from both the east and west sides of the city and include business owners, stakeholders and non-voting city employees. For those unable to attend the meeting, it will be streamed live online here.
