An expansion project is planned for Huffines Kia McKinney.

McKinney City Council members approved a request for a specific use permit for the project at a Dec. 17 meeting in a 6-0 vote, with council member Charlie Philips absent.

The gist

The expansion would increase the dealership’s current roughly 17,000-square-foot building to about 26,700-square feet, according to city documents. The project will also add nearly 100 new parking spaces.

The project will allow for the addition of new automotive servicing areas, extending the dealership’s current car wash and expanding the existing showroom, city documents state. The expansion will also increase parking for customers and employees, and the addition of more vehicle display areas.

Huffines Kia McKinney offers new and pre-owned Kia vehicles, pre-owned vehicles of other makes and models, and automotive services and parts. The dealership, which opened in 2007, is adjacent to Huffines Hyundai McKinney, which saw a similar expansion completed in 2024.

The action taken

The specific use permit requested allowed for automotive, motorcycle, truck or boat rentals and sales on the site, and was recommended for approval by both city staff and members of the McKinney Planning and Zoning Commission.

The action also included approval of two design exceptions for the site plan, including a reduction in the landscape buffer along US 75 as well as use of alternate screening devices.
