Guthrie, who occupied the downtown retail space for five years, said her time in the store prevailed through various challenges and closures, including the COVID-19 pandemic, a fire at the neighboring restaurant Rye Craft Food & Drink and a facade remodeling period.
She now makes art and completes custom art commissions at her home studio, which is located in the historic district surrounding the square and can be visited by appointment. Guthrie makes paintings, prints and paper mache works, and often paints portraits including pet and home portraits.
She also plans to continue participating in local art events, including Arts in Bloom, Empty Bowls and the McKinney Art Studio Tours. Her art is also available at various McKinney retailers, including Sue’s Chic Interiors and The McKinney Wine Merchant.
“It was my dream to have my own public studio [and] gallery,” Guthrie said in an email. "I am grateful to have had that opportunity. I love being a part of the McKinney downtown and community. I am not leaving. I just have more freedom to be more involved in the arts and the community.”
