The idea for Tech Culture McKinney developed naturally as the building was renovated to become a data center, owner Lance Black said.

The coworking space, which opened in 2018, serves as a hub for networking, meet-and-greets, and different events for organizations in McKinney and throughout Collin County, Black said. The building at 1720 Bray Central Drive was originally a church, but it eventually became available for sale.

Black said he bought it for further development. During renovations, he said people approached him seeking to rent office space.

“I realized a perfect opportunity to create a coworking space for small companies,” Black said.

The facility offers a kitchen, a game room, conference rooms and training areas. Tech Culture McKinney also provides services for hosting and backing up digital data.

“I’m very happy to see collaboration between companies within Tech Culture, and it just happens naturally,” Black said. “It’s so neat to hear and feel how these companies come together to learn and grow.”

Black plans to add 50,000 square feet for office, conference and training space. There will also be additional parking for about 300 cars.Black said supply chain issues have posed challenges for construction, but design work is complete. Construction is expected to be completed in 2023.

Tech Culture McKinney provides various levels of membership and full-time office space. Companies that already use the space include a faith-based organization developing literature, a company that builds and manufactures video equipment, and an organization that develops movies and digitizes artwork, Black said.

“The sky is the limit,” Black said. “Demand is certainly driving expansion, and there is such huge growth in the area that we wanted to be a part of it.”
