The city expects the bridge crossing Rowlett Creek along Stonebridge Drive to reopen to traffic by late October.
Reconstruction of the bridge started in early March to make improvements to the bridge’s deck, sidewalks, railing and support foundation. The project includes a complete reconstruction of the existing bridge as well as pavement repairs east of Custer Road.
The bridge will reopen once the city determines it is safe for traffic, according to Nick Ataie, capital improvements manager for the city of McKinney.
Other temporary closures will remain in place along Stonebridge as construction wraps up, Ataie said. The full project is slated for completion by the end of November.
“Drivers should continue to plan for the signed detour route and allow additional time for their commutes while traveling in this area,” Ataie said in
previous project coverage. "We understand that this project creates an inconvenience for local traffic, and it was determined during the design process that the duration, cost and safety risks of the project could be significantly reduced by providing a complete closure of the bridge during construction.”
Eldorado Parkway serves as the primary detour to Custer Road and Stonebridge north of Eldorado. In addition, businesses along Stonebridge east of Custer remain accessible.
