Tucked in the corner of strip mall off Central Expressway and White Avenue lies a shop for the health-conscious in McKinney—Mike’s Health Collection.

Not only do customers often find what they need for better health among the vitamins and supplements at Mike’s Health Collection, but they can also get their smoothies containing what they need for a healthier lifestyle.

“Our smoothies here are considered healthy because we don’t dump a lot of sugar in them or ingredients that are high in carbs,” owner Mike Sammons said. “They are definitely on the healthy end of the smoothie spectrum.”

The smoothies come in 15 flavors and can be used as a meal replacement for weight loss or for muscle recovery after a workout. Mike’s is not just about smoothies, however.

“The idea for starting Mike’s Health Collection came from my lifelong devotion to studying supplementation and health issues,” Sammons said. “After I sold my computer company in 1992, that gave me the opportunity to do what I love most.”

Sammons said having his only store in McKinney comes with the added bonus of the healthy attitude of the city’s residents.

According to Sammons, some of the popular items are heart-healthy nutrients, premium omega-3 fish oils, multivitamins, vitamin D-3, anti-aging supplements, anti-cholesterol products and items for resisting illness. Sammons said his products are some of the best on the market.

“There is a big difference in the quality of the supplements you get here,” he said. “You typically will not find our type of products in a big-box chain. I simply do not sell supplements made by the lowest bidder or allow an inferior product on my shelves.”

Sammons said the service provided by his longtime employees is what makes the difference in a shopper’s experience.

“Competition is always a factor, as we compete with such great stores as Whole Foods and Sprouts,” Sammons said. “But I have the very best employees, and we try our best to spoil and serve our customers. Without my Manager Deb Harry and behind-the-scenes Manager Joe Paris, I would be in trouble.’”

Customers drive through construction to get to his location, he said.

“We’ve been in business since May 1, 1995—over 20 years in the same location,” Sammons said. “Despite the highway construction going on for the last five years, we have survived.”
