There's a new comedy club heading to downtown McKinney that's set to open this spring.

ComedySportz will open The Comedy Arena, 305 E. Virginia St., McKinney, later this year. The Comedy Arena will feature live comedy entertainment as well as a venue for other comedy troupes, stand-up comics and showcases, sketches and productions.

The club will have an in-house improv comedy troupe, ComedySportz, that specializes in short-form, head-to-head comedic shows performed similar to the style of a sports match.

“It just felt like now was the time. Many of us have been doing this for so long and we love what we do, and we love the effect we have on the audience. If we could make a positive difference and change the world at the same time, then this leap seems worth it,” said Von Daniel, co-owner and managing director, in a press release.

“We’re really excited that McKinney will be our new home," he said. "The city and community are really doing a lot of great things, and we can’t wait to be a part and add to the culture.”

ComedySportz is appropriate for all ages, and the audience of a typical ComedySportz match contains everyone from kids to college students to parents to grandparents.

The Comedy Arena is also set to produce other events including The Humor Games, a completely improvised elimination-style showdown where multiple improvisers enter the stage, but only one improviser makes it to the end of the show.

ComedySportz DFW is part of a global network of companies that use improvisation and fosters collaboration, inspiration, gratitude and fun, with a goal to enrich the lives of individuals, families, friends, and organizations alike.
