The sounds of the silver screen will fill the McKinney Performing Arts Center at 4 p.m. on April 10 as the McKinney Community Band treats guests to "Music of the Movies." The McKinney Community Band is celebrating its 10th year by inviting residents to "Music of the Movies," a free concert performed by the all-volunteer band. Performances feature melodies and themes from some of Hollywood's most popular movies. This month the band will include two new members: artistic director/conductor Jeremy Kondrat and associate conductor Elmer Schenk. The McKinney Community Band began its search for a new artistic director and conductor last fall and began auditioning candidates in January. Kondrat is currently the coordinator of instrumental music in Plano ISD. He also previously taught high school band programs in Plano, McKinney and Wisconsin. Schenk has 40 years experience as a music educator and is a member of the Plano Community Band, Frisco Jazz Band and the McKinney Dance Band. In their new positions, Kondrat and Schenk will work together on music selection and programming of the band’s performances while sharing time conducting. Tom Evans, band president, said the McKinney Community Band board and players are pleased to have found the two new additions, adding that the band is looking forward to the impact the additions will bring to the band.
