Lewisville City Council approved an interlocal agreement with the city of Coppell to install six streetlights on a section of Denton Tap Road.

The streetlights will be installed in the center median of Denton Tap Road between Highland Drive and Prestige Drive, according to the Sept. 12 council agenda item. The section is a six-lane divided street without any existing streetlights. Concerns have been raised by residents and staff regarding the lack of lighting and limited visibility for drivers.

Lewisville and Coppell share a city limit that is located within the grassy center median of the section of Denton Tap Road from Highland Drive to about 400 feet north of Fallkirk Drive. The two cities will each be responsible for half of the purchase and installation cost of the streetlights. Meeting documents show Lewisville’s share will be $47,743.20.

Funding for the project will come from the traffic improvements capital improvement accounts, according to the agenda item. Coppell will be responsible for the continued operation and maintenance of these improvements at no cost to Lewisville.

The poles are expected be installed in early 2023, according to the agenda item.
