Highland Village City Council talked about traffic safety issues for FM 407 and FM 2499 at its July 12 meeting.

Construction slated to begin in 2024 at the intersection of FM 407 and FM 2499 will add left-turn lanes in all directions. Funding for the project will come from the Texas Department of Transportation. The town of Flower Mound will serve as the project manager for the work, and Kimley Horn is designing it, according to a presentation to council.

The extra left-turn lanes are being added at this intersection to ease traffic congestion.

Staff has requested a study be conducted by TxDOT in mid-September on FM 407 between Barnett Boulevard and Tartan Trail to determine whether a traffic signal is warranted for that intersection.

FM 407 has had 105 car crashes on an intersecting street in Highland Village from 2019 to the present, according to the presentation. There were a total of 231 crashes on streets that intersect with FM 407 between Highland Village, Flower Mound and Lewisville during that time.

FM 2499 had 72 crash reports at intersections on the 3.4 miles of road in Highland Village from 2019-present, according to the presentation.

Council requested staff provide more details on the crash reports as well as any corresponding data from the fire department at a future meeting.
