The speed limit for a portion of FM 2499 in Highland Village will be raised to 50 mph following approval by Highland Village council members at a meeting June 23.

This will affect the area from the Highland Village northern corporate limit line to the northern part of the intersection of FM 2499, Northwood Drive and Castlewood Boulevard. It was previously marked as 45 mph.

Speed limits from the intersection of FM 2499, Northwood Drive and Castlewood Boulevard to the intersection of FM 2499 and FM 407 will maintain its current speed limit.

The change was made following a revised recommendation to change the speed limit from TxDOT. The city had objected to TxDOT's original recommendation in March to change speed limits on FM 2499 from FM 2181 to the Tarrant County line.

New speed limit signs are expected to be installed shortly after June 23.
