Filing period for city council members and board trustees now open


From now until 5 p.m. on Feb. 16, residents can file for open city council positions in Flower Mound, Highland Village and Lewisville as well as Lewisville ISD board seats. The election will be held May 5.

Flower Mound
In Flower Mound, the mayor and Town Council Places 2 and 4 are up for election. Council Members are elected “at large,” each representing the entire community. The mayor and Place 4 positions will be for three-year terms while the Place 2 position is for a two-year term. In 2019, all future Town Council seats and  will be elected for three-year terms. If interested, applications can be found in the town secretary’s office, located in Town Hall, 2121 Cross Timbers Road, Flower Mound.

Highland Village
City Council Place 1 (mayor), Place 2, Place 4 and Place 6 seats are up for election. All members of Council are elected at-large and for two-year terms. Applications for the above-mentioned places will be accepted at the city secretary’s office, 1000 Highland Village Road, Highland Village, from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Forms may be found online here.

Highland Village Mayor Charlotte Wilcox and Place 4 Council Member Barbara Fleming have announced they are running for re-election.

In Lewisville, the mayor and Place 2 seats are up for election in May. If you are interested in becoming a candidate in this election, visit the following link for information and required forms:  information and forms.  The city secretary’s office will accept applications at 151 West Church Street, Lewisville from Mon.-Thu. 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Friday from 7:30-11:30 a.m. For more information, contact city secretary Julie Worster at 972-219-3404.

Lewisville ISD
Places 1 and 2  on the Lewisville ISD board of trustees are up for election. Anyone may pick up a candidate packet from Lewisville ISD at 1565 W. Main St, Lewisville. Completed forms must be filed in the superintendent’s office.

Place 2 Trustee Trisha Sheffield has announced she is not seeking re-election.

Important dates to know:
•April 5 is the last day to register to vote for the May election.
•Early voting will be held April 23-May 1.
•May 5 is election day.
