The County Health Rankings and Roadmaps report, which was released in March, ranked Denton County No. 1 in the state for health outcomes.
The annual report is released and complied by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute.
Health outcomes are based on two types of measures: how long people live and how healthy people feel. Length of life is measured by premature death (years of potential life lost before age 75). Quality of life is measured by self‐reported health status (percent of people reporting poor or fair health and the number of physically and mentally unhealthy days within the last 30 days) and the percent of low birth weight newborns.
Denton County was also ranked as the sixth healthiest county within the state for multiple health behaviors and health factors, such as access to exercise, graduation and education rates, and lower unemployment rates.
