The town of Flower Mound is urging residents and businesses to conserve water.

Lack of rainfall and high temperatures have led the town to initiate Stage 1 of its Emergency Water Demand Management Plan. High usage in Flower Mound and surrounding communities has caused the water demand to approach a level that could cause a reduced delivery capacity for all or part of the transmission system, according to a press release.

Stage 1 urges residents to refrain from watering lawns and gardens between 10 a.m.-6 p.m., limit outdoor watering to no more than twice per week and reduce the overall water usage. This includes refilling swimming pools, fountains or ponds; washing and rinsing vehicles; watering new and first-year landscaping; and using faucets, hoses or hydrants that allow water to continuously run.

Residents and businesses with street addresses ending in an even number are encouraged to water outdoors on Sunday, Tuesday or Thursday. Residents and businesses with street addresses ending in an odd number should water on Saturday, Monday or Wednesday.

The Upper Trinity Regional Water District has also initiated Stage 1 of its drought contingency plan for its service area, which includes Flower Mound.
