The Highland Village Road sidewalk construction began earlier this month.

The new sidewalk will connect to the existing sidewalk at the Highland Village Municipal Complex and head east along the east side of Highland Village Road, according toa city news release. The sidewalk will then connect on the west side of the road to the existing trail and sidewalk at Lakeside Park.

The project is funded through a 2018 bond issue and was projected to cost about $883,350. However, the price increased by about $26,255 in contract price after the original contractor defaulted on the project and a new contractor was hired by the city.

During a March 22 meeting, the Highland Village City Council approved a contract with Trisura Insurance Company and Talbran Enterprises, LLC to complete construction on the 2021 sidewalk improvements project. The contract came after DBi Services, LLC defaulted on the project.

Completion of the sidewalk will increase pedestrian safety and connect residents to amenities along Highland Village Road and the Inland Trail System, according to the news release.
