Denton County reported a decrease in COVID-19 cases, said Juan Rodriguez, the county’s public health department assistant director.

The onset of illness has dropped over the past several weeks, Rodriguez said during a Feb. 15 county commissioners court meeting.

During the week of Jan. 15, about 13,000 cases were reported. That number has dropped to nearly 2,300 for the week ending on Feb. 5, Rodriguez said.

The positivity rate has also decreased in the county and statewide, Rodriguez said. The positivity rate is now at 13%. Previously that rate reached more than 30%.

“It’s great to see that,” he said.
