The Gene Carey Animal Shelter and Adoption Center in Lewisville temporarily closed because of an increase in COVID-19 cases among its staff, according to a Jan. 11 city news release.

The location is scheduled to reopen Jan. 18, according to the release. The closure comes in an attempt to protect the health of staff and visitors.

Staff will still provide care for animals at the shelter during the closure, according to the release. Animal service officers will also respond to animal emergencies and high-priority calls.

Animal surrenders and adoptions can be made by appointment, which can be made online at lewisvillepets.com.
