Now through Jan. 14: Recycle a tree in Lewisville

Christmas trees can be recycled at Lewisville Lake Park soccer fields now through Jan. 14. Trees must be bare of ornaments and other decorations before being dropped off. Now through Jan. 1: Adopt a pet

Lewisville Animal Services is holding a Home for the Holidays Adoption Special now through Jan. 1. Adoption fees have been reduced to $20 for animals. Gene Carey Animal Shelter and Adoption Center is located at 995 E. Valley Ridge. The adoption fee includes a microchip, all core vaccines, sterilization, heartworm treatment and an optional 30 days of free pet insurance. Residents can see the animals up for adoption at

Dec. 26-Jan. 3 Recycle a tree in Highland Village

Christmas trees can be recycled at Brazos Park in Highland Village all day Dec. 26-Jan. 3. Trees must be stripped of decorations before being recycled.

Dec. 30: Celebrate the end of the year

Families with children of all ages are invited to Lewisville Public Library’s End-of-The-Year Bash, which includes a countdown and balloon drop at noon in the Bennett Children’s Wing. Jan. 15: Get help with a healthy lifestyle

Jan. 17: Honor Martin Luther King Jr.

The Committee to Commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. Day will host this 29th annual celebration to honor King. The theme is “World Divided: Tomorrow United.” Essay, art and photo contest winners will be announced. 6 p.m. Free. Marcus High School Auditorium, 5707 Morriss Road, Flower Mound.
