The Lewisville ISD board of trustees named Lori Rapp its new superintendent during a Feb. 15 board meeting.

“This is such a special moment,” a teary Rapp said to a full room of teachers, principals, district staff and community members.

The unanimous approval comes after a state-mandated 21-day waiting period from the time Rapp was named the sole finalist to officially become superintendent.

The board named Rapp, who served as the deputy superintendent, the sole superintendent finalist Jan. 25. She will start in the new position Feb. 16.

“For 26 years, this has been my home, and I couldn’t be more proud to serve in this way,” Rapp said. “I’m proud to have started in this district as a teacher, and I have worked to never leave my teacher roots behind.”

Rapp is the 10th superintendent of the district and the first woman to serve in the role.

Board president Tracy Scott Miller thanked the community that participated in the district’s surveys and forums. Those responses helped the board make its decision, he said.

“Tonight’s decision will have an impact on every person in the LISD footprint,” he said.

The search for a new superintendent was spurred when former Superintendent Kevin Rogers announced his retirement in November. Gary Patterson serves as the interim superintendent.

Board member Angie Cox said she was excited to see the turnout of principals and staff members at the board meeting. As for the appointment of Rapp, the process was fair and competitive, she said.

“I believe we have selected the best candidate,” Cox said. “We are very excited Dr. Rapp to see the great things you will do for this district.”

After signing her contract, Rapp addressed the parents of LISD. She said they have entrusted their children with the district, and she will work to ensure they are prepared for whatever future they strive to have.

“To the students at LISD, education absolutely changed my life,” she said. “I will work every day to make sure education can do the same for them.”
