The Lewisville ISD board of trustees reviewed costs at its Oct. 5 meeting for the latest fine arts department renovations.

Fine arts additions and renovation projects for Lamar Middle School and Flower Mound High School will be funded through the 2017 bond.

Jackson Construction, the subcontractor for both projects, presented a total guaranteed maximum price of $4.66 million for renovations and addition at Lamar Middle School. This price is about $4.6 million over the original budget, according to district documents.

The guaranteed maximum price presented by Jackson Construction for the Flower Mound High School project is $4.71 million. This price is approximately $2.6 million over the original budget, documents state.

LISD Director of Construction Randy Fite said both projects will be focused on the schools' band and orchestra departments and are expected to be completed by summer 2023.

The projects exceeded the original budgets largely because neither plan included storm shelters, which are required by code, Fite said. The extra costs will be covered by savings from other 2017 bond projects, according to a district memo.
