In November 2017, Texas Department of Transportation completed Phase 1 of the 30-mile 35Express expansion project. The project spanned eight cities, adding main lanes, frontage roads, new bridges and a reversible managed lane system.
Several bridges and interchanges in the Lewisville area were reconstructed, such as the Fox Avenue bridge, Garden Ridge Boulevard bridge and FM 407 bridge.
However, there were some interchanges in Lewisville that were not reconstructed during Phase 1, such as Main Street and Corporate Drive.
TxDOT has funded both the Main Street and Corporate Drive interchanges and has hired design consultants to prepare plans for the reconstruction.
Lewisville City Engineer David Salmon said this is considered Phase 1A of the I-35E project.
Salmon said the city has not yet been given a timeline for when the project will begin, but he expects a schedule to be submitted from TxDOT soon.
Phase 2 of the I-35 project is expected to start 5 to 10 years from now.
