Lewisville City Council approved a $1.3 million contract with Four Star Excavating Inc. for underground utility repairs.

The partnership with Four Star Excavating comes after the Lewisville Public Services Department experienced considerable turnover over the last 18 months, according to the May 2 agenda item. The department has 30 vacant positions with 14 of them in the utility line maintenance division, which is half the positions in the division.

City staff intend to use the contract with Four Star Excavating to catch up on a backlog of repairs, which include 25 service line leaks, one water main leak and two sewer service laterals, according to the agenda.

Four Star Excavating has successfully completed similar projects for the city and other similar-sized municipalities, according to the agenda.

Funding is available in the utility capital project accounts, according to the agenda. Four Star Excavating will begin work as soon as this contract is executed.
