Denton County will hold a public meeting April 26 to gather public input for its Hazard Mitigation Plan.

The meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. on the third floor of the Denton County Courthouse at 1 Courthouse Drive.

The plan, according to a county news release, includes Denton County and the cities of Argyle, Aubrey, Bartonville, The Colony, Copper Canyon, Corinth, Cross Road, Denton, Dish, Double Oak, Flower Mound, Hackberry, Hebron, Hickory Creek, Highland Village, Justin, Krugerville, Krum, Lake Dallas, Lakewood Village, Lewisville, Little Elm, Northlake, Oak Point, Pilot Point, Ponder, Providence Village, Roanoke, Sanger, Shady Shores and Trophy Club.

The meeting will provide a project overview from H2O Partners Inc., a consultant on the project. Public input will be used to help analyze potential hazards affecting residents and possible actions to reduce their impact, according to the release.

Hazards included are high winds, tornados, winter storms, hail, floods, droughts, wildfires, dam failures, extreme heat, lightning and expansive soils.


The purpose of the plan is to minimize or eliminate the long-term risk to human life and property from hazards by identifying and implementing mitigation actions, according to the release.
