Flower Mound Town Council denied a specific-use permit that would allow a drive-thru restaurant to be located in River Walk.

The April 4 unanimous denial came because of the applicant's desire to include a drive-thru window and the proximity that drive-thru was to residential townhomes.

The restaurant was a proposed 4,078-square-foot space in the River Walk retail zone located on the corner of Promenade Way and Long Prairie Road, according to the agenda. The town’s planning and zoning board recommended approval by a 4-2 vote during its March 28 meeting.

Council Member Jim Engel said he was concerned about the traffic the drive-thru would bring throughout the residential area.

The drive-thru would have included signage to direct traffic flow, according to the agenda item. Drive-thru hours would also be limited to 5 a.m.-7 p.m.

Council Member Adam Schiestel said the drive-thru restaurant moved away from the quaint and laid-back feel that was laid out in the original developer agreement.
