Republican candidate James Kerbow is running for Justice of the Peace Precinct 3 in the primary runoff election, which is May 22.

He is running against Bill Lawrence. Early voting is from May 14-18.

Precinct 3 represents Lewisville, Highland Village and Copper Canyon.

Community Impact Newspaper sent Kerbow a series of questions on his candidacy. His written responses, edited for publication style, are below.

Why did you decide to run for this office?

I decided to run for justice of the peace because service has always been a large part of my life. I’ve always been a part of politics both at a local and a state level. The justice of the peace court is something I’ve been around professionally for 10 years and personally for 20. To me, it was a calling and I had to go for it.

If elected, what will your priorities be?

My priority the first year will be to understand every facet of the position—really get in and dig into the operations for a full understanding of what everyone does on a day-to-day basis. The cases I hear will be focused on fairness and equality for all people.

What experience—politically or professionally—do you have that will prepare you for
this position?

I am the only candidate with any experience in the justice of the peace court. In my profession, I’m in the justice of the peace court 2-3 times per month. Mainly for eviction court. My mother is a judge and my sister and brother-in-law are attorneys. So on a personal level, I have some support to bounce ideas and thoughts off of.

What else do you want constituents to know about you and your background?

I want everyone to know that whether you voted for me or not, no matter how you vote, whether liberal or Republican—I’m here to work for you. I will represent you with integrity [and] fairness, and I will uphold the law. I'm the only candidate who will be fair and impartial, and I will not legislate from the bench. I [was] born and raised in our community, and I would love your support to represent Precinct 3—Lewisville, Highland Village and Copper Canyon. I will not let you down
