At Tuesday's Flower Mound Town Council meeting, members approved a master plan amendment to change the land-use designation of 17.69 acres located east of Long Prairie Road and north of Aberdeen Drive from estate residential to retail.

The 17.69-acre development will be called Founder's Landing and feature a 36,000-square-foot grocery store, 43,650 square feet of office space and 57,500 square feet of retail-restaurant space.

Mayor Tom Hayden said a recent survey showed the No.1 retailer residents want in Flower Mound is Trader Joe's.

"It would be an outstanding location for a Trader Joe’s, so you should get busy with Andrea (the town's economic development director) to make that happen," Hayden told Bobby Dollak of G&A Consultants, who was representing the landowner.

The land has been owned by the Hilliard family for over 80 years. It has been used for agricultural purposes and in the middle of the field is an old runway known as Hilliard runway.

Dollak said the name of the development stems from the Hilliard family being one of the founding families of Flower Mound and because of the runway.
