At the Oct. 16 board of trustees meeting, trustees approved class-size waivers for four elementary schools: Castle Hills, College Street, Ethridge and Wellington.

The Texas Education Agency requires each school district to conduct a class size enrollment survey for kindergarten through fourth grade and submit a request for exception for all classrooms that exceed the class size of 22 students.

At Castle Hills, there is one third-grade class that exceeds the limit; College Street has two third-grade classes beyond the limit; Ethridge has two fourth-grade classes over the limit; and Wellington has one fourth-grade class over the limit.

If approved by the TEA, the campuses will provide the required written notice of the state granted exception to parents no later than 31 days from the approval date.

Trustees said the amount of class waivers needed has dwindled significantly since the 2014-15 school year due to the district’s investment in teachers.
