At the Oct. 2 Lewisville City Council meeting, council approved a zone change request that will allow 32 townhomes to be built on 4.2 acres adjacent to Vista Ridge United Methodist Church.

The property, which is owned by the church, will be sold to the developer of the townhomes. The homes will be priced from $300,000-$340,000.

VRUMC members said the property was purchased 20 years ago in anticipation of the church growing into a regional church. However, they said they no longer need a larger church.

In 2013 a zoning change for the property was brought before council to build townhomes, but the applicant withdrew after hearing neighborhood opposition.

At the October meeting, residents from nearby neighborhood Vista Ridge Estates showed up in opposition.

Residents who spoke in opposition expressed concerns that the homes would be incompatible with the neighboring single-family detached homes. They also said there would be issues with safety and increased traffic in the neighborhood, and townhomes would lower their home property values.
