Two warming centers will be open in Lewisville when an extreme cold watch goes into effect Feb. 18.

The National Weather Service has issued an extreme cold watch notice for multiple cities in Denton County including Lewisville and Flower Mound. The notice will be in effect from Tuesday night through Thursday morning, according to NWS.

There’s a slight chance of freezing rain expected between 9 p.m.-12 a.m. Feb. 18 with wind gusts that could reach 30 mph, according to NWS’ weekly forecast. Temperatures are expected to fall to 19 degrees fahrenheit that night.

On Feb. 19, the high temperature is expected to reach 30 degrees before falling to 14 degrees that night.


Weather is forecasted to have minimal impact on travel but Wednesday morning commuters should be aware of slick spots on bridges and overpasses, according to a news release from the city of Lewisville.

Two locations in Lewisville will open as warming shelters for anyone who needs to get out of the cold:


The Salvation Army location will open at 6 p.m. Feb. 18 and will remain open 24/7 through noon Feb. 21, according to the city news release. The library will open during regular hours:
  • 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Feb. 18-Feb. 21
  • 9 a.m.-5p.m. Feb. 21
