Changes are underway for Lewisville’s trash and recycling collection starting in February, according to a city news release.

According to the release many Lewisville residents, including all in the Castle Hills neighborhoods, will experience trash collection schedule changes when the city merges two existing trash collection contracts.

What to know

When the change is made, trash and recycling collection in Castle Hills will shift from twice a week to once a week. These customers will be switched from Community Waste Disposal to Republic Services and will see a reduction of up to $11 in their base monthly bill, per the release.

Residents will be provided with new Republic bins, one for household waste and one for recycling. Residents will still own the carts they purchased from CWD, but Republic will not collect trash placed in the CWD-branded bins.

If a resident no longer wants the CWD-branded bins, Republic will pick them up as part of bulk collection and dispose of them. The recycling carts will be picked up as well, as homeowners do not get to keep those carts.

The context

Lewisville’s residential solid waste and recycling collection services are exclusively franchised to Republic Services. Castle Hills neighborhoods are served by Community Waste Disposal under a contract originally signed by the Fresh Water Supply District, per the release. When the CWD contract expires in January, those customers will move to Republic Services’ collection.

The change will result in balanced bills for all Lewisville residents, decrease wear and tear on roads and alleys, and should allow for more timely service to residents. In addition, Republic Services’ contract contains a cap on annual service charge increases that the CWD contract does not have, according to the release.

Going forward

The only anticipated change for current Republic Service customers in Lewisville is that redrawn collection routes are expected to change the weekly collection day for about 7,000 addresses.

The new collection schedule will be announced well in advance, and all regularly scheduled collections will still be Monday through Friday. Changes in service and billing will take effect Feb. 3, according to the release.
