In a nutshell
Lewisville City Council members approved a contract of up to $121,089.68 for the firm’s services during a Dec. 2 meeting. The project is the latest effort since the city first began addressing erosion along Timber Creek's bank in 2007.
Timber Creek has historically had erosion issues and several projects to maintain it have been completed in the past, according to a staff memo. Officials are concerned that further erosion along the highlighted portion of Timber Creek will destabilize a portion of Timber Creek Trail.
Under the agreement, Halff Associates will conduct topographic surveys, site investigations, geotechnical engineering services, and conceptual design of two erosion control options. Halff Associates is expected to present designs to city officials for review in 2025, according to the agreement.
Once a design option is selected, the city’s agreement with Halff Associates will be updated to include final design and construction services for the project.
The background
Funding for design is available under a fund specific to Timber Creek erosion projects listed on Lewisville’s capital improvement program, according to the memo. The fund has more than $236,727 available, according to Lewisville’s fiscal year 2023-24 budget.
Halff Associates first conducted a study on Timber Creek’s erosion in 2008 and has completed design for previous projects related to the creek, according to a staff memo.
The firm has offices in several North Texas cities including Flower Mound, Fort Worth, Frisco and Richardson.
