At a Sept. 16 meeting, members of the Coppell Recreation Development Corporation voted unanimously to approve a more than $166,000 agreement with Shade Structures, Inc. to replace the equipment at the park.
The details
According to a CRDC memo, shade structures at the park are expected to last about 10 years. The ones at Wagon Wheel, which also provide protection from foul balls, were initially installed in 2009.
Repainting of amenities at the park, including the shade structure framing, caused the old shade structures to be removed and created the need for new ones, the memo states.
The project was initially budgeted for in the 2023-24 CRDC Work plan with an expected cost of $97,800. The additional nearly $68,400 is needed due to the rising costs of labor and material, according to the memo.
What else?
With approval from the CRDC, the measure will go to council for final approval at a future date. No timeline for the project was provided.
The CRDC is a sales tax special-revenue fund for recreation and entertainment in Coppell managed by the CRDC board, a seven-member team composed of residents and City Council members. It undertakes projects for youth and adult amateur athletics; entertainment, and public gathering facilities; exhibition and museum facilities; and parks and recreational facilities, according to city documents.
