The city of Lewisville will be adding another automated license plate reader, bringing the total number to 15.

Lewisville City Council voted to approve the addition of a flock camera at the intersection of FM 407 and Lake Park Road during its March 4 meeting.

In a nutshell

City officials had to get approval from the Texas Department of Transportation before moving forward with the addition of the camera because the location was in TxDOT’s right-of-way. The city has 12 fixed cameras and two portable flock cameras installed on a trailer.

According to city documents, the installation will increase public safety and help the Lewisville Police Department in crime prevention efforts.

What else?

The automated license plate reader also helps assist in detection and apprehension of vehicles entered into the police department’s list of stolen vehicles and license plates entered in the National Crime Index Computer, according to city documents.
