Trash and recycling rates are going up for residents in the Castle Hills area of Lewisville.

The city voted to move all trash and recycling services to Republic Services in 2025 and end a contract with Community Waste Disposal—which had a contract with the Castle Hills areas when the city annexed the land in 2021.

Council voted to approve an increase for rates during the March 4 meeting.

How we got here

The city and CWD agreed to a two-year contract renewal on April 7, 2022, and a one-year renewal kicked in this year—extending the contract through April 6, 2025.

In January, council voted to go into an exclusive agreement with Republic Services on Feb. 1, 2025. That meant an early termination of the contract with CWD, and city officials informed the company it would end the contract on Jan. 31, 2025.

The details

To offset the additional cost for CWD, rates will be increased by 10.3% for Castle Hill residents, effective April 3. The average home that has one trash cart and one recycling cart will see the cost go up $2.62 per month, according to the city. The increase will bring the monthly rate to $28.05 per month.

The city will have a second reading of the contract termination with CWD during the April 3 council meeting.

Republic Services customers in Lewisville saw a 2.1% increase on Feb. 1.
