The city of Lewisville is forging ahead with improvements to Corporate Drive, helping turn the road into a regional thoroughfare.

The $43 million project was approved by Lewisville City Council during their Dec. 4 meeting. Council approved a contract with Sundt Construction Inc., from Irving.

Sundt Construction is currently building a railroad underpass project in Lewisville that will finish nine months ahead of schedule, and construction of Corporate Drive is expected to start after that is finished, according to documents.

Zooming in

Sundt Construction was not the lowest bider, coming in with the second highest bid of $40.9 million, but staff recommended the business after they scored higher in a rating system.

The other companies to bid were:
  • Harper Brothers Construction: $38.5 million
  • Ragle Inc.: $39.1 million
  • Reyes Group Ltd: $44 million
In the proposal, Sundt laid out a sequence where the project would be completed 140 days sooner than the contract requires.

The details

The project would include a 2,000-foot long bridge across the Elm Fork of the Trinity River, and Sundt will do so while still maintaining river access for canoe and kayak users, according to documents.

Other project details include new street paving, sidewalk, trail improvements, drainage and water improvement. Work will run from Railroad Street to Huffines Boulevard. Corporate Drive starts at Long Prairie Road in Flower Mound, runs through Carrollton, Castle Hills and The Colony, and ends in Plano at Legacy Drive. The Lewisville portion would eventually connect with Carrollton Parkway, making it a regional thoroughfare, according to documents.

Construction is slated to start in February and is expected to be completed within 915 calendar days. Funding is available through the North Central Texas Council of Governments Regional Toll Revenue originally funded in 2010. Funding expires at the end of December 2032 unless a contract was awarded.
