Lewisville City Council approved a resolution to designate 50 parcels of land as public parks Oct. 17.

The resolution helps fulfill city officials’ goal to provide every resident access to a park within a 10-minute walk of their homes. The resolution designates and names 10 city-owned properties in areas that are considered park deserts, according to the agenda item. The proposed names and location for the parks are below. Most of the properties will be treated as pocket parks or natural areas:
  • Palisades Park at Palisades Drive
  • Holly Oak Park at Holly Oak Drive
  • TC Acres Park at Timbercreek Drive
  • Green Commons at Mill Street and Parkway Drive
  • Purgatory Pass Park at Purgatory Pass
  • Bennett Nature Park at Bennett Lane
  • Harn Park at I-35 and Prairie Creek
  • Lewisville Kayak Launch at Hebron Parkway and Trinity River
  • Parker Place Park at Garrison Drive
  • Glory Park/Parque La Gloria at Kia Drive and Southwest Parkway
Nine of the 10 listed properties are maintained by the Lewisville Parks and Recreation Department. The properties will be improved according to the department master plan development standards for each type of park, according to the agenda item.

The department will update park inventory on the Play Lewisville website and begin the fabrication and installation of park signs at each site. Funding is available in various capital improvement projects and the 4B fund for the signage.

The resolution also designates and provides park names for the public parcels in Castle Hills and includes a name change for the Frederick P. Herring Recreation Center to the Frederick P. Herring Parks and Recreation Center to reflect the department’s pending move from the Lewisville Municipal Annex to the center.
