Hebron High School’s football fieldhouse is slated for a remodel in addition to maintenance and repairs outlined as part of Lewisville ISD’s 2024 bond package.

The bond planned for around $4.2 million in maintenance and repair work at the campus's athletic facilities and trustees approved an additional $5.4 million to remodel the fieldhouse and bring it up to par with others across the district at a Feb. 10 meeting. The remodel was not contained in the bond.

In May, voters approved a $101.8 million bond package, which included three propositions that will generate additional funding to conduct maintenance, repairs and renovations at various athletics and recreation facilities across the district. The additional $5.4 million for the remodel will be funded through land sales and not affect the debt service funds from the 2024 bond, according to district documents.

What's happening

The existing Hebron High School fieldhouse was built in 2002 and is used for the campus’s football team, Superintendent Lori Rapp said when reviewing the project at the Feb. 3 workshop.

In 2010, each LISD high school received a new fieldhouse facility for their football teams, but Hebron High School elected to use the building for track, soccer, baseball and softball, meaning the facility used for football at Hebron varies in layout and amenities from those across the district, Rapp said.

The additional funding would renovate the 2002 fieldhouse so that it is comparable to football fieldhouses at other high schools, Rapp said.

The work would include the following items:
  • Expanding laundry and storage areas
  • Combine assistant coaches offices into one larger room with a bigger attached shower and locker room
  • Adding meeting rooms
  • Building a large team room that can be subdivided
  • Renovating the head coach's office with attached shower and restroom
  • Creating dedicated film and video editing space
  • Creating more functional training room space
  • Removing the turf room from the facility
Also of note

The district also plans to address the pedestrian traffic flow into the fieldhouse and stadium, by tearing down an unused ticket building and widening the pedestrian area, Rapp said. The work would also open up and improve the stadium entranceways and expand the parking lot.

“This construction would not start for a full year and the price has been adjusted for inflation,” she said.

Going forward

Along with the remodel, officials outlined maintenance and repair work for Hebron High School’s stadium and baseball and softball facilities. This includes installing new LED lighting and replacing the scoreboard and track at the Hebron High School stadium as well as replacing baseball and softball field lighting and converting fields to turf, according to district documents.

Officials will bring forward the maximum price, estimated at $4.2 million, for these items for board approval in March, Rapp said.
