The projects, totaling nearly $44 million, will be conducted at Creek Valley and Durham middle schools. The guaranteed maximum prices for each were approved at the Feb. 10 board meeting.
The details
Both Creek Valley and Durham middle schools will receive new furniture, technology updates to student and staff devices and network infrastructure, safety and security updates, including weapon scanners and new locking and alarm systems, and the maintenance and repair of buses, transportation center, and fine arts musical instruments, according to district documents.
The board approved a guaranteed maximum price for Creek Valley at $21.2 million and Durham Middle School at $22.7 million.

This set of bond projects originally included $23.1 million in repairs at Downing Middle School, but trustees unanimously voted to delay work at that campus until officials can better determine the district's fiscal bearings following the conclusion of the 89th legislative session. Downing Middle was on the initial closure list during discussions on campus retirements last year. The board approved the delay with the condition that officials carry out mandatory safety work such as replacing fire alarm systems.
“This board is not saying one way or the other what is the future of Downing,” Trustee Staci Barker said. “I don’t want it to appear that we have already made up our minds about a campus, because we haven’t.”
The project delay also suspended plans to add solar panels to Downing Middle School, which could have occurred alongside the roof replacement during renovations. The panels were expected to save the district up to $50,000 a year in energy savings, per previous Community Impact reporting.
Looking ahead
Officials said work on both Creek Valley and Durham will begin this summer and is estimated to complete in summer 2026.
District officials plan to bring maximum price proposals for around 12 other 2023 bond maintenance and repair projects in March. The projects will include work at the following campuses:

- The Colony High School
- Marcus High School
- Hebron High School

- Castle Hills Elementary School
- Central Elementary School
