The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for Jan. 9 through early Jan. 10, expecting a wintry mix with snow and sleet accumulations between 1 and 4 inches and ice accumulations around a tenth of an inch.
What to know
According to a CISD news release, the district has decided to close all schools and administration buildings due to severe weather and possible unsafe road conditions.
“The inclement weather is anticipated to begin during the morning of Jan. 9 and we do not want to dismiss early during severe weather for the safety of our students, families and staff,” CISD staff stated in the release.
Additionally, all CISD extracurricular, athletic and fine arts activities are also canceled.. Since the district and schools are closed, parents and guardians do not have to submit a school absence note for Jan. 9, per the release.
LISD also decided to close all schools and facilities and all after school activities, according to a news release.
Before you go
Decisions about school closure on Jan. 10 for both districts are still undetermined and will be announced through one of multiple LISD and CISD platforms.
CISD officials stated that the district is assessing how this missed day will be made up, which could include the use of a bad weather day or by using extra instructional minutes already built into the district’s calendar. Once finalized, this decision will be shared with our staff and families.
