Lewisville High School’s football field house is being renamed after former coach Ronnie Gage.

The Lewisville ISD board of trustees approved the name change Feb. 12 after discussing the issue in January.

The details

The field house is an indoor athletic facility situated behind the scoreboard of the LHS football field. The naming committee received daily emails from community members recommending it be named after Gage, trustee Sheila Taylor said. Following the board’s approval, it will be known as the Ronnie Gage Fieldhouse.

Ronnie Gage served as Lewisville High School's head coach from 1991-2004 and became a two-time state champion. He then served as LISD athletic director from 2005-2009.

Every year, over 25 of his players or assistant coaches meet up at the Texas Coaches Convention for a reunion with Gage, Taylor said. The University Interscholastic League recognized Gage as one of the top 100 Texas high school football coaches in the last 100 years, according to its website.

What they’re saying

Gage, along with his friends, family, former LHS coaches, several football players, LHS cheerleaders and the LHS Fighting Farmer mascot attended the meeting to show support for the renaming.

“Coach Gage has been lauded as a mentor, a shining star of the community and a remarkable human being,” Taylor said.
