The Coppell ISD board of trustees approved an order to call a general election May 4 to fill positions in places 6 and 7.

Trustees Nichole Bentley, Place 6, and Jobby Matthew, Place 7, are at the end of their office term.

The details

Applications for a place on the ballot began Jan. 17 and will run through Feb. 16, according to district documents. The deadline for write-in candidates is Feb. 20.

Early voting will be conducted at the Coppell Town Center on Parkway Boulevard on April 22 and April 30. The last day to register to vote is April 4.


According to the district website, some responsibilities of board members include:
  • Hiring a superintendent to serve as the CEO of the district and evaluating the superintendent’s success
  • Approving an annual budget consistent with the district vision and adopting the district’s tax rate
  • Adopting policies that inform district actions
  • Ensuring creation of a vision and goals for the district, and evaluating district success
  • Communicating the district vision and success to the community
Board members are also required to attend continuing education training every year, and they are encouraged to attend seminars that are helpful to their individual performance and support district goals. The board president also assigns board members to serve on district committees each year.

Individuals voting by mail must send their ballots to Early Voting Clerk Heidier Garcia at the Dallas County Elections Department. The district is inviting those interested in running for a board of trustees place to attend a board candidate workshop Feb. 1 starting a 6 p.m., according to its website. The meeting will take place in the board room of the Vonita White Administration Building on Denton Tap Road.
