Coppell ISD board of trustees approved two vendors for a 2023 bond project at Buddy Echols Field at their Dec. 11 meeting.

Chief Operations Officer Chris Trotter presented CISD’s vendor recommendations in the replacement of the stadium’s artificial turf, resurfacing of the running track and replacement of the seat backs. The project is outlined in the 2023-24 bond construction schedule for Coppell High School.

The details

CISD worked with Glenn Engineering, the civil and structural engineering company for all bond projects that was approved at a Nov. 13 meeting, to create specifications and place a formal bid for the turf replacement and track resurfacing that meet district needs, according to the board memo in the agenda.

The proposal from Hellas Construction Inc. provided the bid that was the lowest of the three and the overall best value for Coppell ISD at a total of $1.6 million, according to the memo. The company has completed several turf and track projects over the last 20 years with Coppell ISD.

The work is scheduled to begin May 25 and complete July 29.

More details

For the replacement of the stadium seats and seat backs, CISD recommended Sturdisteel, a division of Schultz Industries Inc. with whom the district has previously worked with on bleacher and stadium seating projects, Trotter said. The project is estimated to cost around $190,000.

The district is working with Coppell High School and the graduation schedule to determine the best time frame to start the project, he said.

“We could do that in late February or right after graduation,” he said. “We just want to make sure there are no hiccups with the installation, logistics of getting the seat backs here.”

Also of note

The new field design and Coppell Cowboy iconography will be similar to what is currently in place apart from a minor change to the team area outlined in white related to a new NCAA guideline, Trotter said in an email.

The former standard was that the area spanned 25 yard line to 25 yard line. The new standard situates the area from 20 to 20 yard line. Given that the district is replacing the turf as part of the voter approved bond, it is opting for the 20 to 20 yard change, he said.
