The Texas Department of Transportation is expected to conduct several nighttime lane closures April 25-May 1 for I-635 in Dallas County.

This construction is part of a $1.74 billion roadway construction project by TxDOT to “improve mobility, operations and safety,” according to the project’s website.

The project, which stretches 11 miles from just east of US 75 to I-30, will improve what TxDOT calls one of the most congested areas in the state. Work will include building a fifth lane in each direction of I-635 East, reconstructing the existing managed toll lanes and adding continuous frontage roads in each direction.

Eastbound traffic at Royal Lane and Miller Road will be reduced to one lane during nighttime construction. This roadwork will begin at 10 p.m. each night April 25-May 1 and end at 5 a.m. on April 26-29 and May 2, and at 8 a.m. on April 30-May 1.

In addition, eastbound and westbound traffic on I-635 between Greenville Avenue and Royal Lane/Miller Road will be reduced to one lane in each direction from 9 p.m. April 25-May 1 until 5 a.m. the next morning. Westbound traffic I-635 between Walnut Hill Lane/Kingsley Road and Plano Road will also be reduced to one lane beginning at 9 p.m. April 25-30 and lasting until 5 a.m. the next day.

Seven ramps on I-635 will also be closed at times, including the eastbound I-635 entrance at Miller Road, the eastbound I-635 exit to Skillman Street, the westbound I-635 entrance at Skillman Street, the eastbound I-635 exit to Abrams Road, the eastbound I-635 exit to Royal Lane/Miller Road, the westbound I-635 exit to Plano Road and the westbound I-635 entrance at Jupiter Road. All closures will be held at similar times to the interstate lane closures.

All lanes along the westbound I-635 frontage road as well as the westbound entrance at Northwest Highway will be closed beginning at 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. the next day April 25-26.

Construction is also scheduled to occur along the I-635 frontage roads from April 25-30. Work will include construction on eastbound and westbound roads between Forest Lane and Abrams Road and eastbound lanes between Markville Drive and Abrams Road. In addition, various nighttime closures are scheduled to occur on those roads beginning at 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following day April 25-May 1.
