An active shooter response training program available to the public will be held from 4-6 p.m. on Sept. 6 at It’ll Do Club, 4322 Elm St.
Attendees will learn how to develop emergency plans, recognize life-threatening bleeding and how to act quickly to save lives. The event will be hosted by 24HourDallas, a volunteer-run nonprofit aiming to improve the city’s nightlife economy, and training will be given by the Dallas Police Department and Methodist Dallas Medical Center.
“Unfortunately, mass shootings are far too common across our city, state and nation, and our entertainment venues and areas can be especially vulnerable, given their enclosed spaces and large gatherings of people” said Jose Rivas, 24HourDallas Advisory Council member and vice chair of the city of Dallas Community Police Oversight Board.
The training is part of a Good Neighbors Initiative launched by the nonprofit this year in response to local and national increases in shootings, crimes and nighttime violence. It is one of many events scheduled in a three-year plan to increase public safety in the nightlife industry. The event is free to attend, and spots can be reserved online.
