Dallas Animal Services is partnering with the Bissell Pet foundation to provide free pet adoptions through July 31.

According to a July 25 press release, the free adoption partnership is part of a nationwide effort by Bissell to offset “unprecedented overcrowding” at shelters. The Empty the Shelters event will be hosted in more than 250 shelters in 42 states.

“DAS continues to see 40-60 dogs coming into our building every day, and we desperately need the help of our community to get these deserving dogs into loving homes,” said MeLissa Webber, Dallas Animal Services director, in a statement. “We are thrilled to work with Bissell Pet Foundation to help increase adoptions and save more lives.”

According to its website, the Bissell Pet Foundation supports animal welfare organizations and provides resources to underserved communities in order to help reduce the number of animals in shelters and rescues.

“Shelters are calling me daily, and [our foundation] is feeling the burden of overcrowding,” said Cathy Bissell, founder of Bissell Pet Foundation, in a statement. “With the euthanasia of homeless dogs up 22% across the country in just the first quarter of 2022 alone, we knew we had to act quickly to help at-risk pets.”

Animal service officials said all adoption fees will be waived during the event. Prior to adoption, all dogs and cats are spayed or neutered, microchipped and given age-appropriate vaccinations.

Dallas Animal Services will participate through its main shelter, which is located at 1818 N. Westmoreland Road and at the Everyday Adoption Center inside the PetSmart located at 16821 N. Coit Road, until July 31, according to the press release. Those interested in adopting can find more details at www.BeDallas90.org.
