City of Dallas offices and some facilities will close Oct. 9 in recognition of Indigenous Peoples’ Day.

Because of the holiday, these Dallas services and facilities will be closed:
  • All Dallas Public Library locations
  • Sanitation administrative offices
  • Dallas Park and Recreation administrative offices
  • Recreation centers
  • Maintenance facilities
  • Dallas Water Utilities administrative and customer services offices
  • The municipal court
Dallas Animal Services will remain open Oct. 9. Garbage collection will be serviced as scheduled, according to a city news release.

For emergency service requests, residents may use the city’s 311 helpline. Nonemergency requests can be submitted through the city’s website or on the OurDallas mobile app.

The backstory


In September 2021, Dallas City Council voted to recognize Indigenous Peoples’ Day as well as Juneteenth and Veterans’ Day as paid employee holidays.

Indigenous Peoples’ Day, which falls on the second Monday in October, is federally observed as Columbus Day.
