With the help of new grant funding, Dallas College is looking to enhance the local workforce.

On Dec. 7, Gov. Greg Abbott announced Dallas College was awarded a $1.01 million grant from the Skills Development Fund by the Texas Workforce Commission in partnership with local employers, such as Mint Dentistry, Kpost Company, On-Target Supplies and Logistics, and The Richards Group.

“This job training grant will help equip North Texans with the skills they need to excel in high-demand careers and ensure our vital industries have the support they need to succeed,” Abbott said in the news release.

The funding will help Dallas College provide more than 600 new and current workers with “customized training” in areas such as administration, project management, roofing, dental hygiene, material handling and desktop support, according to the news release.

The Texas Workforce Commission’s Skills Development Fund, created in 1996, is aimed at helping businesses in the state upskill their workforce through partnerships with public community colleges, technical colleges and other organizations, according to the TWC’s website.

“[This] award is another great example of employers who are committed to upskilling their workers to prepare for the growing Texas economy,” TWC Chair Bryan Daniel said in the news release.
